A hearty bowl...

I just took possession of this bowl. There are two of them. My sister kept the other.

It's definitely one of my favorite things now. You see, these were my Dad's oversized cereal bowls. Trust me, many times they were filled with anything but cereal (Dad was an ice cream lover, and these bowls held a LOT of ice cream!)

I made oatmeal in mine the other morning. The nights and mornings have been a wee bit nippy lately, so warm oatmeal hits the spot!

I add water to the packet of oatmeal, zap it in the microwave for 60 seconds, and then toss in some chopped walnuts, blueberries (or any kind of berries I have on hand), and add a bit of Almond Milk. It sure hits the spot on a chilly morning. And the bowl, of course, always makes me smile because it makes me think of my dad :)

I'm joining Claudia at Mockingbird Hill Cottage today for A Favorite Thing Saturday. Pop over and visit everyone, and be sure to share your own favorite thing!

How nice that you each have a bowl of youf fathers. If I'm eating dinner alone, oatmeal is one of my favorites! Not much to clean up either. :@

That is a great bowl, especially since it holds more than just food ... it holds lots of memories, too. I eat oatmeal for dinner quite often -- I use the quick cooking kind, a tsp of brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon, almond or soy milk in the microwave for 1-1/2 minutes - then top it with either walnuts and blueberries or dried cranberries and chopped pecans. With a glass of orange juice -- you get your iron and vitamin c, too. Yummy! Have a great weekend. Tammy

Oh that bowl is a treasure, my friend. I'm glad that there were two so that you and your sister could each have one. That oatmeal sure looks tasty!

Don't you just love almond milk? I have it all the time.

Thanks so much for joining this week, my friend.

What a fun bowl! I didn't know there was Weight Control oatmeal!! I'll have to try that... right after my big bowl of ice cream!

Oh, that's nice you got your Dad's bowl, Donna. I've been eating oatmeal in the mornings, too, but I've never tried it with almond milk. I use whole milke (would prefer half and half but ohhhhhhhh, the calories.)

Dark and gloomy in Massachusetts today, isn't it?

The bowl is great. I so enjoy using things that belonged to my parents. It gives me a warm, warm feeling.

Isn't it nice having something from your family. My mom has been gone 7 years, and every time I use her big mixing bowl I remember her.

It's so lovely that you have that memory of your dad, and can share it with your sister. I took my dad's soup bowl and recently passed it along to my daughter. Memories like that (and things touched and used by loved ones) are truly priceless.
