The lone hydrangea...

The hydrangea bush I planted back in 2009 finally produced....
... one - single - bloom.

I photographed it last week after a rainstorm, but then forgot to bring it in when it suddenly started raining again. In the spring, we'll be transplanting the bush to a different location to see if that makes a difference.

Yesterday, after tossing peanuts to my Sammy Squirrels and Chip-munks, I finally remembered to bring the hydrangea in.

It has the most beautiful shades of blues and violets.

I put it in a vase and set it in front of the window seat in the family room.

Then I had visions of Baby knocking over the vase and spilling water everywhere.
Not a good location.

One of the few places I've never seen Baby (thank goodness) is on top of the mantel.
(The lampshade is wearing its Halloween mask, as you can see)

So that is where the hydrangea vase was placed. The colors match the portrait frame beautifully...

... so that is where it will stay. (I think everyone except Beethoven approves but, then again, he's a pretty tough sell on anything).

Pop over and join in on the fun!

Have a great week, everyone!

Donna

  2. So I'm not the only one who has a hydrangea bush that doesn't grow enormously and produce a ton of blooms?! We transplanted ours into a sunnier spot late this summer and still - all we got was one lone bloom. I'm hoping for a better summer for my hydrangea next year - yours, too!

  4. That is one pretty hydrangea. It takes a couple of years sometimes for the bushes to get established. My own took about 3 years before it really started producing. This year (5th year) it was LOADED with blooms.

Your mantle looks great-especially without BABY on it!;>) xo Diana

  5. Lovely, Donna. The hydrangea and frame do match perfectly. Everything looks nice. Where was Baby hiding when you snapped these photos? Susan

  6. Hi, first time visitor from Cozy Little House's Tweak it Tuesday. You must be doing something right for the hydrangea, because I understand it is very difficult for established plants to continue to have those lovely bluey-purpley colored flowers. Just lovely. Isn't it amazing how it held up through the rain storms. If I were you, I'd tape a little paper rose across Beethoven's lips, bet he wouldn't look nearly so severe then. (I probably spelled his name wrong).

  8. Hydrangeas are my favorite! Your bloom looks great on the mantel and it is safer there too.

I love that painting of the girl and her cat. The frame is such a unique color. Beautiful. Lovely vignette.

  9. I love your lone Hydrangea--I had to laugh because I have a lone Hydrangea also. The difference is my bushes had 100's and now I am down to my last one in the house. Maybe next year you will have a whole bunch! Your home looks pretty :)

  10. Just make sure to cut your hydrangea back this fall, take out the dead wood. Take out the inner branches as you thin rather than the outer. I have had good response to my hydrangea pruning but of course mine are in Oregon.

  11. That couch looks so very comfy.

And, don't be surprised if Baby ends up on the mantel one day :) I walked in on my 18 MO (I HAD to go to the bathroom!) who had pulled the drawers out as steps, climbed up to the countertop, stood on it, opened the cabinet & managed to get the teething tablets off the TOP shelf and ate half of them :) Fortunately, Hyland's teething tablets are impossible to overdose on...Whole foods told me that if I was lucky, he'd take a nap :D no such luck.
