The early bird gets the...

... house!!

As many of you know, as soon as our bluebirds arrived, we immediately ordered and hung a couple of bluebird houses. And although the bluebirds have been checking out the houses...

... they may have waited a wee bit too long to stake claim to them! At least this house.

This scene unfolded mere minutes ago. Mr. and Mrs. Sparrow seem like very serious contenders as they discuss the pros and cons of this new home.

Mr. Sparrow checked out the neighborhood (tree) while Mrs. Sparrow sat firmly on the roof lest some other birds come along looking for a new house.

Looks like I've been spotted!

Apparently I didn't scare them off because they're now peeking inside.

Well, they've now both inspected the inside and Mrs. Sparrow is taking one last look at the view from the front door before they make their final decision.

It looks like it's a done deal. Mrs. Sparrow just dropped some 'bedding' inside the front door and I see that Mr. Sparrow has some in his beak as well.
Ahhhh, spring is definitely in the air (although you'd never know it by the temps!)

"Honey, I'm home!"

Sorry, my bluebirds. There's still one more house mounted in the yard and one more waiting to be mounted. Don't forget, the early bird gets the (meal)worm and the house!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Spring vignettes...

Spring has really arrived here in New England! Not only outside, but inside as well!

A little spring vignette in the Family Room featuring a vintage paint-by-number and bird figurines.

I think Mama Bluebird is squawking to Mr. Blue Jay that he'd better stay away from her nest and eggs!

As you can see, I use most of my old chair pads on tables rather than chairs. This plant is enjoying soaking up the sun through the slider.

Now this plant is an artificial boxwood, so technically it doesn't need the sun's rays, but I think it likes this spot in the window anyhow!

Baby is enjoying lounging in the family room today, laying against one of my favorite pillows made out of an old chenille bedspread. It is definitely a spring pillow with a big pink rose against a blue and white background.

This floral swan was a bedroom decoration in one of my girls' bedrooms when they were little. They're now in their 20's, so it's been around for quite some time.

It sits above the family room sliders.

This is my Christmas/Easter cactus. I call it that because it blooms at both Christmastime and in the spring around Easter. It sits on a robin's egg blue floral place mat in the living room bay window.

And last, but certainly not least, is the bird bowl I shared with you in yesterday's post. This little fellow definitely brings a touch of spring to the fireplace mantel.

I hope you enjoyed some of our spring vignettes. I'm linking up to Beverly's Pink (Spring) Saturday at How Sweet the Sound, so stop on over!!

Happy spring, everyone!

Pretty in Pink

The view from our living room window...

is spectacular right now, thanks to our hoppa crab tree.

It's hard to believe it was only a little over a month ago, during our April 1st storm...

...that it looked like this!!!

Even the bird lamp birdies are enjoying the view!

It's hard to believe that when we bought these trees back in 1982 (we planted two in our yard)...

... they were so small ...

... that they both fit ...

...  into the back of my VW bug convertible (with the top down, of course).

Spring was a long time in coming, but it was well worth the wait!!

I'm linking up to My Romantic Home's Show & Tell Friday. Be sure to stop by and see what everyone is sharing this week!
Also, I'm sorry I haven't been able to visit a lot of you lately. My dad has been in the hospital/nursing home/rehab for the past two weeks and I'm spending a lot of time there. Hopefully, if all goes well, he will be coming home some time next week and I'll have more time to get around and visit. Till then, I hope you are all enjoying spring wherever you are!!

Finally!

After many, many months...

of looking this way...

...and looking that way...

... of always sleeping...

... with one eye open...

of waiting, and waiting, and waiting...

...until you have no more "wait" left in you...

... of looking through...

... every window, for the smallest sign ...

...until you feel like climbing the walls ...

... or the windows ...

... because all you see is this.

 F . I  . N . A . L . L .Y

... beautiful, glorious ....

... S P R I N G ....

... has arrived in New England...

HAPPY SPRING, EVERYONE!!!!

You can't fool Mother Nature...

... but she can sure FOOL you!!!

I'd love to say this is an April Fool's Day gag post...

..but it's not! This is the view we woke to this morning.

It started late last night...

... with HUGE snowflakes falling from the heavens...

(even though in my photos they look like darts!)

You'll just have to trust me - they were big, gorgeous snowflakes!

And as SICK as I am of snow, the beauty of it always takes my breath away...

...with the view from each window...

..being more gorgeous than the last...

So we'll grin and bear it, once again....

... and admire the winter wonderland that Mother Nature dropped on our doorstep...

On this lovely, spring, April Fool's Day.

I can't get over the irony of that!

But HOPE springs eternal that Spring will be on it's merry way to New England in the very near future!!
