And the sun sets...

... on another day.

The late afternoon sun sits so low at this time of year. I caught it right at sundown the other day, while it was sending its last beams of light through the living room window behind the caged plant...

...and the lace valance...

It gives a beautiful glow to the room as it sets. How I wish it would stay longer. I am not a fan of pitch black darkness before 5p.m. But the setting sun does put on a show with the shadows it casts on the walls at this time of year, as evidenced by the following photo of the plant, the window, and the valance.

Within a minute of taking this photo, the shadow was gone as the sun had dropped below the treetops outside the window.

In other day-to-day news, Baby continues to claim everything in the house as her own.

... including the drying rack, which is brought in a lot during this time of the year (as opposed to drying things outside where they just freeze).

Baby's nose is a bit out of joint. We have a new member of the family who I'll introduce shortly. Although it took a while (and is still an ongoing process), the animals seem to be adjusting. We've had some bumps in the road of life over the past few weeks. Nothing major and everything will be okay, but I'm sorry to say that it delayed me announcing the winner of my giveaway, which was scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving.

I asked one of my girls to pick a number (from the total number of comments) and she picked #18. So congratulations to Brenda Kula of Cozy Little House, who posted the 18th comment on my giveaway blogpost! Brenda, just email me your address and I will get your SNOW giveaway right out in the mail to you!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving :)

Sweet Cape Cod in September...

This past week I made a quick day trip to beautiful Cape Cod to help a relative run some errands, and the weather could not have been more gorgeous!

I don't think I have ever seen hydrangeas as beautiful as the ones I see on the Cape!

Having arriveded on Cape a bit before my aunt expected me, I thought a trip to the beach might be a good idea...

How right I was!

The beaches that were packed just weeks before...

...were virtually empty now that the kids are back at school.

There were a few people here and there... Some relaxed, read books, and enjoyed the view...

... while others flew kites. I'm so glad I had a bit of time to visit the ocean. There is nothing like it to refresh the soul.
And then it was time to head to my aunt's... Look at the cute bunny that greets visitors to her front door.

She lives in a beautiful home...

...and I always love coming to the Cape to visit her.

There's someone else I love coming to visit...

Is this not the cutest face ever?

Yes, indeed. I think it is!

The house inside is so warm and inviting... An eclectic mix of colonial, traditional, and contemporary... The fireplace off the kitchen is the perfect place to relax with a cup of hot tea on a chilly day...

And the sunroom is the perfect place to relax when you want to take in the views outside...

The living room is always so cheerful and flooded with natural light...

The diamond pane windows were the inspiration for the windows we put into our family room addition 21 years ago.

Then it was off to run errands... I snapped a few photos while we were out and about... We stopped by this marina and I just loved the flag rippling in the breeze...

...and we made a quick detour off of Rte. 6A so I could snap a photo of the Edward Gorey House (which is a FUN place to visit, although we didn't have time today!).

And finally, with all of our errands completed, we headed to The Marshside restaurant in Dennis for supper.

If you are ever in the area, be sure to stop in.

The gardens surrounding the restaurant are gorgeous...

...and the marsh views are stunning. And can you believe I forgot to take photos of our food? You'll have to trust me... My baked scallops were to die for and my aunt loved her lobster mac & cheese (which had HUGE chunks of lobster meat!)...

I left the Cape right at sunset. I think the Cape must be one of the most beautiful places on earth! I hope you enjoyed coming along with me!
We are on a roll of fantastic weather! I hope you are all enjoying September!

The shadows of dusk...

One of my favorite times of the day.

I love being out in the garden as the sun sets...

It's when the hummer feeders are most active...

and when beautiful shadows are being cast...

...on chippy garden statues....

...and weathered birdhouses...
The perfect end to another beautiful summer day...

You're sure to fall in love with Old Cape Cod...

I'm back from my quick trip to Cape Cod, which has to be one of the most charming places ever! Thursday was beautiful, Friday was rainy. I didn't get around too much as I had to help a family member for a couple of days, but I did manage to snap some photos (the beach at sunset and a couple of dream houses)! I have a few more pictures, but I'll save them for next time!

(P.S. I tried to find this entire song, Old Cape Cod by Patti Page, which was one of my mom's favorites, but could only find a 30 second sound bite! Oh, well!! 30 seconds is better than not having it at all!)
