I brought this old carpenter's bench in from the deck (and none too soon! Just look at the rainy weather we're having today! That deck was swept clean yesterday and just look at all the leaves that came down overnight!)
I've had this rustic beauty since my prim decor days, and it's always been used out on the deck... To say it is weathered is an understatement.
I'm using a piece of old Battenburg lace valance as a table runner... There's something about the look of crisp white Battenburg lace paired with old, distressed wood that makes my heart skip a beat...
There's also a handy little shelf section on the bottom - just the right size for the basket that holds peanuts for our Sammy's, Chips, and birds (this basket is a treasured gift from my awesome friend, Jill, who got it in Amish country just for me!! How luck am I??)
So after I took my closeups to share with you, I stepped back to take some shots of the herbs in front of the slider. I usually take 2-3 shots of everything now that I blog, just to make sure I get at least one good one!! Okay, so this is the first shot....
(click photo to enlarge)
And then I took this one. Now I sure didn't notice anything unusual in the viewfinder when I snapped, but when I loaded the photos onto my computer there was no denying that I captured something in the above photo! Above the rosemary on the right is either an orb or the biggest flying dust bunny I've ever seen! I may not be the greatest housekeeper, but I'm not that bad!! At first I thought it might have been something flying by on the outside (big bird maybe?)... But it's definitely on the inside because it's blocking my window grids...

So... any experts out there who can help me figure out what I captured here? I've heard that experts can tell the difference between dust, glare, and real energy/orbs! (Oh, and I wasn't using a flash, so it's definitely not a reflection from that)...
And stay tuned for my upcoming posts (which are perfect for the week leading up to Halloween!)... I'm going to share another post just about orbs as well as my awesome day trip to historic Concord, Mass, on Friday (which included a visit to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery!)...
COMMENT UPDATE #1: Our house was built in 1981, so it's not what you'd consider an 'old' home; also, we're the only ones who have ever lived here... And yes, we have had a couple of things happen here but I've just mentioned them to family and friends for fear of what I must sound like when sharing these stories!
COMMENT UPDATE #2: I'm getting chills!! The carpenter's bench is very old. I purchased it many years ago at a junktique shop and it was quite old and weather-worn even back then. I never even thought of there being a possible connection between the bench and the orb! It might be going back out on the deck very soon!!

Hi Donna!
ReplyDeleteHow cool! Sure looks like an orb to me and I'm "into" such things.
How old is your house? Ever have anything unusual happen before?
Hmmmmmmm.....very interesting. I can't wait to read your next orb-related post!
Tammy
Hello Donna, I agree with Tammy, that looks like an orb to me... my sister's house is full of mysterious goings ons...how old is the little bench you just brought in? Did it belong to someone who is now long gone and maybe loved it so much they are still looking after it? Please post more... I do not think it is crazy or whacko or anything else... I do believe sometimes those who have passed on still watch over their possessions, homes, etc.... Bisous... Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteI don't want to spook you, but if you look at it closely you can see a face! Boo!
ReplyDeleteGwen
Our house was built the same year. But we have only lived here the last five. That's downright spooky. Think I'd leave the lights on in that room at night for awhile. Just in case...

Hi Donna!
ReplyDeleteI love your bench and it looks perfect there.
Okay, now a question. Where did you find those herb markers? I love them. I have been looking for some.
have a great day!
Oh, I got so absorbed in the mystery that I forgot what I was going to mention in the first place. That Battenburg lace looks lovely on the old and perhaps "haunted" bench.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I love your little cottage. I've never heard of energy orbs, but it certainly has possibilties. Have simply frightful Halloween!
ReplyDeleteHi Donna it looks like you can see a face in that orb.I once took a pic of my boys and sent it to my friend, she told me to send the same pic untouched, sized etc.So I did and she zoomed in on the orb and it was my grandfathers face in the orb.I now know he watches over my boys all the time as he was above them that day.
ReplyDeleteI too LOVE white lace & battenburg with wood tones.Rustic but yet romantic looking.Hugs,Jennifer
Oh dear Donna, no need to put the bench out in garage. The dearly departed are not the ones we need to worry about. It's those still alive that can do us harm. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about your other ghost stories!
Hugs,
Joanne
ooh....goosebumps. It looks like it has colors in it? I have often heard that if you buy something used the former owner can come with it! But I love the bench and it looks great in front of your doors!
ReplyDeleteOOH! Donna, I love stuff like this! It surely does look like an orb - some sort of energy mass. I agree with the commenter who said its the living we have to worry about, not the departed. Maybe the bench comes with a previous owner? Or maybe a friendly orb attached itself to the bench when it was outside?
ReplyDeleteFascinating. Sometimes one of my dogs will look up at the ceiling or someplace in the room (not a window) and stare intently for the longest time. I always feel like they are 'seeing' something I can't.
Does that every happen with your pets?
Keep us posted. Love this post!
xoxo

What an interesting thing to experience...it definitely looks like an 'orb' to me. I suppose it could be something associated with the antique bench (since your home isn't that old) but it may be something attached to your family, a relative perhaps??? Keep us posted, we're all looking forward to updates about this I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteLove the bench inside or out and the Battenburg lace. As for the orb, if it freaks you out maybe you should put the bench outside again. Try taking more photos of the bench at different times of the day and see what "develops".
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone that the living are way more scary. However, If you have a bad feeling move the bench out.
One little note. My little girl, Violet (3 at the time) started talking about how she wanted to see a "grandma"
Violet said, "you know the one with red hair and she's all glowey. Grace"
Grandma Grace I said. Yes she said happily. "Grandma told me to be nice to my sister and that we were special girls."
My grandma Grace died When I(Lacy) was 8ys old, Violet had never seen a picture of her or had we talked about Grandma! Funny thing- my grandma use to die her hair bright red. lol
I've had a few things happen to me, as well. But Violets experience is so sweet and I believe people who loved us are around all the time!
Love your house- I was surprised when you said it was only from 1981 - it has a much older look and feel.
ReplyDeleteWow. 70 degree weather!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy it got up to 57 today. =0))
Wonderful pics. Love that little rustic bench with your posts on it.

To be honest, I LOVE anything paranormal and am always looking for *signs* from family that have moved on. So this post just calls to me ;)
ReplyDeleteHaving pets, I have dust but I've never seen a dust bunny jump that high! And it doesnt look like a smudge or anything like that. It's almost transparent. I think you have a friend on that photo shoot with you. And I agree with another commenter, its the living we need to fear. I'm no expert but those are my thoughts! I hope it helps even a little. Keep these stories coming! :)
Hello Donna, as a new follower of your blog, I found your story fascinating! I am not sure if anyone else noticed or not, but in one of the other photos, you can see the same orb on the floor boards in front of the bench! I had a close up look, and it certainly looks like an actual object, not a smudge or smear, but something slowly moving above the bench! This is a good thing, you have someone special watching over you, or the bench, perhaps someone once loved it as much as you and wanted to share that with you!
ReplyDeleteDonna, by the sheer numbers of ppl who have lived in them, older homes are more likely to be haunted - however, ghosts can also be attracted to people and follow them home...and there are definite cases of spirits being attached to material possessions, such as furniture. The most frightening and
ReplyDeleteunexplainable experience I ever had happened in a home that was maybe 30 years old at the most, and I don't think the spirit or whatever was even someone who lived there, but more likely was someone who worked on the property. At least, I like to think it was him. The alternative is scarier.
The thing in your photo is definitely something INSIDE the house. Have you tried having a photographer look at it to see if it could be something wrong with the film?
I always think of these possibilities when I bring an older item into my house....one never knows...yikes!
