Brown Thumb: (noun)
Definition: Lack of skills at growing plants; something possessed by a poor gardener.
Used in a sentence: I have a terrible brown thumb. I could probably kill silk flowers.

We won't even get into the layer of dust on the ceramic bird or the dead leaves all over the battenburg table runner. Wait a minute... do I still see hints of green in there? Let's see if I can bring these babies back to life (running to get the watering can).
While taking photos of the "brown thumb" gang, the bluejays kept a vigil on the deck, waiting for peanuts (it is bitter, bitter cold in Massachusetts today)... So I tossed out several handfuls of peanuts to the birds and squirrels and then stepped back and took this photo of the first bluejay that swooped down to grab a treat as reflected in the family room mirror. (Ignore the wayward peanut that rolled under the carpenter's bench.) I didn't even notice it until I up?/down?loaded the photos onto my computer. It has now been tossed out on the deck as well...
I hope you're all staying warm (at least in our area where we're experiencing the coldest weather of the winter season)...
Donna
My Mother had a green thumb. She could grow anything anywhere. With me it is a stuggle, but I still love to garden.

poor plants, but I do see green, there is still hope..lol
ReplyDeleteHi Donna...I'm in Massachusetts, too, and man oh man, hasn't it been bitterly cold? I love the fire in the fireplace, though. Loved your post today. Sincerely, Susan from writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of plant was, I mean is it? If there is green there is still hope. Maybe try cutting it back. I have a bunch of plants and some of them are just not good for the house, at least my house:) The birds are thanking you today. It is bitter cold her in CT too.

I would suggest cutting the plant back to where the green is showing. That may save the day! Love your blue jay photo - it is cold, cold, cold here today!

I kill plants too.
ReplyDeleteTonight is unbearably cold. I couldn't bring myself to go outside
after I came home from work. I am going to cuddle with the kitties and listen to the howling wind from my warm bed!
Of all the things I like to dabble in, let's just say that 'green thumbing' is NOT my forte! So I can empathise with you...
ReplyDeleteThis is my first stop at your blog..I'll look around some more, but I love what I see already! Your manner and style of writing is very eloquent...
Please stop by my blog anytime...the door is always open!
ciao
Awwww, Poor little plants. I'm sure they'll be ok with a little water and sunshine. My neighbor talks to hers and swears that they do better.... Stay warm!

Donna, you can do ANYTHING. That little plant is only sleeping. I love your blog so much. I've been away a bit. It's so nice to come back to these beautiful pictures and delightful posts.
ReplyDeleteYou have a gift.

It does look like a few of mine! Though hubby says I have a knack of bringing plants that looks dead back to life!! Love the way you took the photo in the mirror!

You're so funny... I had to smile with your "I could probably kill silk flowers.".... but don't despair, perfection comes with practice! ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day

You grow beautiful outdoor plants and your birdcages are beautiful. You just need more light and there's not much here in the winter. If you add some plant lights, I bet they will do much better. So you only have half a brown thumb, the winter one. The other half is green, the summer one. Lol
ReplyDeleteI have a brown thumb. i envy the people
ReplyDeletethat have luck. my plants look sickly.

Hi Donna, There is always hope. I see a bit of green. I can't have plants in the house cause the kittys eat them. Or big holes in the dirt. Dirt all over the floor.
ReplyDeleteI have a plant that looks very much like that in my bathroom. I keep meaning to throw it away but if I ignore it I don't feel like such a failure.
ReplyDeleteOn a more positive note...the bird is very pretty.
I find the more I ignore my houseplants the better off they are. ha! It is so nice that you are feeding the birds and squirrels in the cold weather.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gwen
Since you have such a lovely and verdant heart, well, I can't believe that you have a brown thumb.
