Possibly our last tree for many years to come

This may be our last tree for many years to come. It's been this way since we got Baby a few years ago. (See my "The Cat Who Stole Christmas" blogpost from our first year with her.)

It starts with her jumping onto the pie safe. (Look at the glare as she realizes she's been noticed.) Normally a ham for the camera, she knows what she is about to do is a no-no. But in less than a minute, she has forgotten all about me and has now focused her undivided attention on....
 The Christmas Tree.

Within moments...

...the batting begins...

...and that is usually followed by a trip across the bannister to the back of the tree...

... where she finds even more ornaments to bat at.

Note: Normally she is picked up and removed from the tree immediately when she starts these antics, but for the sake of this one blogpost, I allowed her to be her normal curious kitty self.

(Just so nobody is worrying about Baby, the drop from the bannister to our split entry foyer is only a few feet. Nonetheless, I do try to discourage her from climbing across it.)

Here she is in action, thanks to my little camera video.

I'm joining Claudia at Mockingbird Hill Cottage for A Favorite Thing Saturday this week.
Stop over and share a favorite thing of yours!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

  1. We had to move our tree to a new location so it has no furniture or anything around it that my cats can perch on. They still bother the lower branches, but I try not to put much on them. Bless Baby's heart! :)

  2. I hold my breath when my cat Abby walks the banister.
    I love your movies.

  3. I like Baby's spots and her playful spirit. For several years we tied our tall Christmas tree to a plant hook that is in the ceiling, so the tree wouldn't fall over when a cat jumped to get ornaments.

  4. LOL! Cute pictures.
Same here, I gave up putting ornaments on our tree. I keep telling them that Santa is watching. It doesn't help.

  5. So cute! My Charlie Kitty isn't interested in the ornaments anymore but does love to sleep beneath the tree with the lights on! Sweet!

  6. My previous cats didn't bother the Christmas tree at all.

These two that I have now? Well, let's just say most of my Christmas ornaments stay in their box all year. I use small trees now. And it seems they even get smaller every year.

Since I don't have Christmas at my house anymore, it is ok. Now that the niece and nephews are all grown up, we have Christmas at my brothers house. Next year, his grandson may visit!!! Jackson is only 6 weeks old and far enough away that they won't make it this year.

    Merry Christmas!

  8. I gave up on the Christmas tree for two years now. Maybe next year I will try again. One cat wanted to eat the lights!

  9. It's easy for me to laugh at Baby's antics since she's not at my house! We haven't put up a big Christmas tree for several years now; we just have a small one on top of the buffet with a few ornaments hanging from it. Believe it or not, my cats don't bother them!

  12. I'm sorry but I'm laughing at your bad Baby! If that's what she does when you're watching, I can imagine what happens when you are out of the room. I can make fun of you because I have a cat that is just as bad and she almost pulled my chandelier down swiping at the snowflakes I hung there!

  13. this is so funny and I appreciate so much you letting Baby bat so we could see her in action. Baby is beautiful! The first year we were married we got a persian kitten. One night she climbed in the tree (we didn't know it) and as we sat watching television the tree started to sway back and forth. At first I thought I was the victim of too much egg nog until we realized it was Sportie. :) Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  15. What a cutie! When I was younger, we had a cat who stole little ornaments off the tree and hid them under a bed.

  16. Oh she's some baby! Pretty as can be. This post had me laughing out loud! Well, there are other ways to decorate but baby will probably find a way to be amused no matter how you decorate. She's a beautiful cat. At least she's playful. I don't know what's wrong with me dogs. All they do is lie around ad sleep. That haven't seemed to happy lately and I don't know what's wrong. I think I may have to get some new toys for them.

  17. Baby is a gorgeous cat! I was worried at first when your post said this may be your last tree. Glad it's because of babie's antics. I was laughing pretty good over this post. At least she is active and playful. I don't know what's wrong with my dogs. They don't look happy and all they do is lie around and sleep until I take them for their walk. I think they need some new toys.

  18. She is incorrigible! What a little rascal! And Baby knows that she's doing wrong, but she's going to try to get away with it anyway, LOL. If I don't talk with you again between now and then Merry Christmas!

  19. Baby is adorable, love her spots and black on top of her head! We rescued two senior doggies a couple of months ago and the nine year old is quite the mischief maker. Too funny.

    Fingers crossed for your tree.

    Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

  20. Why are cats so fascinated with Christmas trees. I remember one of our cats climbing the tree and another hid things in it. Meowww!

  21. I'd like to come to your house and plop myself in a chair and simply watch Baby for a few hours! That girl would have me laughing within minutes!

Merry Christmas to you and yours, my friend. Thank you for your friendship.

  22. We must have Babys' sister! She is so much like her. Same attitude, also! Mine is also a stray that came with another stray for my barn, but she wasn't expected. She has so much personality that she became an indoor cat.
Thanks for sharing. 8^) Have a Merry Christmas!

  23. My cats seem to have given up on climbing the tree or batting at too many things. Now they LOVE to sleep under it. Luckily that keeps the tree intact. Maybe Baby will grow out of it too!
