Spring + Sunlight = Happy!

The warm spring sun was shining through the window the other morning and I had to grab my camera!

This time of year is so exciting when you live in a region known for harsh winters
(although I have to admit that here in New England, we had a pretty easy time of it this year!)

I set up this spring vignette on a little table that sits in the dining area of our small split entry, using things from other areas of the house.

The birds flanking the nest were 'borrowed' from the mantel.

They're such a pretty 'mottled' shade of robins egg blue (a favorite of mine).

I know they're not robins, but they are guarding the three pale blue eggs in the nest until Mrs. Robin returns.
The nest was originally purchased as an ornament several years ago
(nests in Christmas trees are considered good luck).
I like to keep it in the house year-round.

I love the quote on this frame, "Humor is mankind's greatest blessing," by Mark Twain. The girls were hamming it up one Christmas morning, trying on their new cloche hats, complete with tags hanging down and stuffing still inside the hats to helped keep their shape.
(It seemed an appropriate photo for this particular frame!)

One of my favorite lampshades with a very spring-like pattern.

The sun was shining through the "faux" plant in this cherub planter.

And now the sun has gone behind some clouds, but that doesn't change the fact that
SPRING has arrived here in New England!

Christmas in March...

This is our Christmas cactus right now...

...happily budding and blooming in the living room window.

This was it on Dec. 22nd, just before Christmas.

It was also budding and blooming back then.

That got me to wondering if I had a Christmas cactus...

...or an Easter cactus.

It's now sitting in a western exposure window, whereas at Christmastime, it was in the southern exposure dining room window (it had to be moved because the dining room window, with it's screen feeder, became Baby's bird viewing area).

So I decided to do a little on-line research...

... and I was correct. I definitely have a Christmas cactus.

Why it has started blooming again is beyond me, but I'm thrilled because it is so beautiful.

Here is an excellent article showing side-by-side photos and outlining the differences between a Christmas cactus and an Easter cactus, just in case any of you might have the same question.
I'm linking up to Show & Tell Friday at Cindy's My Romantic Home. Be sure to pop over to see what everyone is sharing this week!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Christmas cactus and cherubs....

The Christmas cactus...

...started blooming weeks and weeks before Christmas

Long before the Christmas decorations were put up.

And it's still going strong.

The cherub planter and Christmas cactus are sharing the windowsill...

...with the Christmas decorations right now...

...but in a couple of days, when Christmas is packed away in bins, the planter will once again be the focal point in this little window, as it is eleven months out of the year.

I wonder if it will miss the Christmas decorations? Or if it prefers having the window all to itself...

The plants have been watered...

... and now I'm heading out for a quick overnight trip. I'll be back soon and might even have some pictures of Olde Cape Cod to share with you!
