Are you an early bird? Or a night owl?

If you're an early bird at our house, this is the view through the DR window.

The early morning sun casts tree shadows across the front of our little shed.

"I'll tell you how the sun rose a ribbon at a time." (Emily Dickinson)

But if you're a night owl, this is the view, created by the back porch light casting shadows of the hummingbird feeder, bird bath, and fuschia across the shed.

"The very shadows seem to listen."
(Anna Katharine Green)

Day or night, how I love shadows!

A walk on the dark side...

... through the yard, that is...

Oh dear.... my sweet little "welcome" bunnies look somewhat sinister during this late night stroll...

The front yard lantern will light the way for all the little witches and goblins that descend upon us this Halloween eve....

The garden gate, decked out in autumn leaves, doesn't look too scary...

But in front of the gate, the little ghost that flits and flutters in the slightest breeze might cause some shivers and goosebumps...

Whooooooo goes there.....

The spanish moss adds an eerie look to the mums and pumpkins....

A most unflattering camera angle.... but then again, I don't think she actually has a 'good side.'
Wish you all a frightfully good Halloween!!!

Moonlit Garden...

The moon was full and bright tonight... a perfect night to take a stroll around the yard with camera in hand. Except for a few perennials that have popped up, the garden is still bare... after all, this is New England.

The clematis that climbs the arbor leading into the backyard is sprouting new shoots. Before long it will be covered in beautiful purple flowers. The cherry tree is just starting to bud.

You'll notice that squirrels have enlarged the openings to many of our birdhouses. One of the houses actually has a mom, dad, and baby squirrels right now. I didn't photograph that one because I didn't want to startle them.

The robins have been bathing with reckless abandon in the birdbaths in the yard. My garden lady looks naked without her flower hat, but it's still too early to plant that... I'm thinking she might look good with a hat of coral impatiens this year.... or maybe pink fuschias to attract the hummingbirds...
This was fun... Thanks for joining me on my midnight stroll...
Update: I just showed my husband these photos as he'd already gone to bed when I took them last night... After viewing them, he said it looked like we live in an overgrown cemetery! (I think it was the last picture with the 'hatless' woman bust that did it... I don't think he's ever cared for her! LOL) So just in case anyone else was thinking the same thing... rest assured, we don't live in an overgrown cemetery. I'll post more cheerful daytime photos of the garden when things get planted and start blooming!
