Storage issue solved!

I love using chenille scatter rugs around the house; some vintage, some new. My problem has always been where to store them. I thought baskets might be a good solution (in a small house, you need to get creative about storage space)...

... so I measured my rolled up rugs, measured the space under our sap bench/coffee table, and set out for Home Goods.

I found exactly what I was looking for! These two baskets are the perfect size for my chenille scatter rugs and they fit underneath the sap bench perfectly! If I'd had something custom made it couldn't have worked out better! While at Home Goods, I also picked up some baskets for my bookshelves (another organization project I'll share in a future post).

And I have to tell you about this new little rug and the incredible deal I got on it! It's just a 5'x8' indoor/outdoor rug but for $4.99 I couldn't pass it up!! I found it at The Christmas Tree Shop (a chain of stores here in the northeast). When I got it up to the register the cashier said, "This rug rings up at $49.99." I said, "Oh, I thought the tag said $4.99!" to which she replied, "It does. Let me call a manager." So the manager came over, looked at the rug, looked at the price sticker and told her to give it to me for $4.99 even though the price was actually $49.99! Then he told me I got the buy of the year! Thank you, Mr. Manager! "Don't you just love a bargain?" is the jingle for their commercials... Yes, I do!!

I LOVE that idea, chickee!! I have hubby's old military foot locker (painted white, of course) under a sofa table in my living room holding old rugs. I'm thinking of "papering" it to give it a bit of "punch"! But I love your idea for different areas of the house also. Just beautiful, sweetpea!

My mom used to store small rugs, and table cloths, etc... by rolling them up and slipping them into the openings on those plastic shoe holders that hang in the closet. They usually have about a dozen slots for shoes, so you can put your rolled up linens in them and store a lot in a little closet space! I do the same with my electrical cords and extra computer wires; they are handy and not jumbled up when I need them.

What an amazing deal you got. It was nice of the manager (and good customer service) to make good on that price.

Great idea on the storage baskets. They fit perfectly and look so beautiful all rolled up.

Can't wait to see your other organization project.

Hi Donna!
I love baskets! They help so much with storage AND they look great. I don't know what I'd do without Home Goods and TJMaxx. They have such wonderful bargains. If I have an idea for some new decorating "thing" I have in my head that's the 1st place I go to. If it's not a bargain I can't afford it!

Hi Donna!

That was a fabulous idea! That would be great for lots of things that need storage in a living room.

I wish Chrstmas Tree shops were in my area -- sounds like my kind of store.

I tagged you on my blog post today -- I hope you can join in! I know how much you love books so I think you'll find it easy and fun to do!

Hugs, Pat
PS Did your daughter happen run into Mel Gibson on his movie shot yet? I'd love to see him in person! :-)
