Bird love... such a 'sweet thing'

I love the candy hearts with messages on them. When they pop up on store shelves, I know that Valentine’s day must be fast approaching…

Hearts … such a sweet symbol of love…

I happened to glance out the window today and spotted a little junco looking up at me. I went to grab my camera, and honestly didn't expect him to still be there when I got back to the window...

(click any photos to enlarge)
... but he was. It won't be long before he is flying north to Canada for the summer.…

He sat on the gate for the longest time, just looking up at the dining room window and the feeder… Perhaps he was memorizing them so he’ll be able to head straight back here next winter.

He was perched right above the heart cut-out on the backyard gate (that I wrote about here)… I like to think he was sending me some valentine love…

So eat up before your long flight, little junco… And rest assured, the feeder will be full and waiting for you when you return next winter!

Donna (we're expecting another 6+ inches of snow today... brrrrrr)

What a sweet little visitor! I so enjoy seeing all the birds and critters that visit you. We've got a mockingbird who's decided to set up house in our neighbors tree, boy do they make a racket but I love to see him anyway.
Six inches of snow?! Egads! Um, stay warm and safe. I just can't imagine...um, it's going to be 82 here...Now that is what I call "winter". I'm such a warm blood I'd never make it where it snowed. I'm a sissy. lol!

Your blog is so charming. I just took some time looking through older entries. Love your little bird, your thrift finds, your bedroom makeover thoughts AND your faux tulips! ;)

I love the Juncos, too, they are so pretty. I also call them "Snowbirds", because we only see them in the winter. We got about 4" of snow here today, not too bad.

Hi Donna,

Did you get that 6" of snow? We only had a couple, thank goodness!

What a sweet little bird. I like how he's looking one way and then the other. I didn't know the Junco's went to Canada in the Summer! Seems they just disappear in the spring and magically show back up in the fall. Such sweet little birds : )

I love your gate photo's. There is something serene yet strong about a gate to anything. Nice shots.
