My Decorating Style is COUNTRY ECLECTIC...

...according to a HomeGoods quiz I recently took...

I love HomeGoods. The garden bunny and birdcage on top of the bookcase in my banner came from HomeGoods. And I wrote about them here when I got these storage baskets for under our coffee table; here when I reorganized my bookcases; here when I prettied up our TV area; and here when I created a little vignette on our kitchen counter. So let's see how close their quiz came to defining my decorating style...

Donna, you are a Country Eclectic

You have wide-ranging interests and influences and therefore appreciate a mix of styles, periods, and objects. You would never use a matching suite of furniture or could stand a home that seemed cookie-cutter.

Well, that's true... After all, I did pair this old, ornate mirror with a very modern CD cubby...

But you love the breezy, layered look of wonderfully personal beach houses...

I have to admit, this vintage beachy seagull painting definitely 'spoke to me'...

... and the happy florals of English cottages.

Well, this vintage floral cottage mother's motto is one of my favorites! So far they've got me pegged.

Bringing the outdoors in makes you happy...

That's so true... I use bird garden statues and a basket of lavender (from HomeGoods) on top of the TV in the family room...

And Patience, who used to live in the garden, was moved into the house perrmanently last year...

a little chintz or ruffle or weathered furniture,

Patience sometimes sits on this rusted garden table.... yes, I do love weathered furniture...

...urns filled with tennis rackets, colored glasses filled with cut flowers, vintage-looking, mixed tea cups, and all things that give a sense of a happy, simple life.

Yes, cut flowers in colored glass makes my heart go pitter pat...

You value comfort. Your home is a warm and open friendly place...

I try...

and you feel happiest when everyone is cared for and relaxed in your space.

Spotty can vouch for that!

Elements like pillows

Very true... I can't resist big, plump pillows (from Marshalls) on the couch...

...or the windowseat.

throws,

I do love using throws on my wing chairs... lightweight throws for summer...

... and vintage chenille throws for winter.

overstuffed furniture, and good lighting set the mood

Is anything more inviting than an overstuffed chair paired with a "free by the curb" reading lamp? Okay, Mary Higgins Clark, I'm ready for your next book!

You may also enjoy layering different fabrics or mixing patterns to create a cozy effect.

I love layering... solid white paired with this vintage robin's egg blue tablecloth...

...or maybe a quilt (from TJ Maxx) layered over a white tablecloth...

Click here if you'd like to take the HomeGoods Stylescope quiz created by Deborah Needleman, editor-in-chief of Domino magazine. The results of my quiz perfectly matched my decorating style, Country Eclectic... So what's your style?
COMMENT RESPONSE: Patience, my lady planter, was purchased a couple of years ago from The Christmas Tree Shop. She was a dark brown/bronze color and I sponge painted her light grey to look more like a cement planter. Ironically, that same year (after purchasing Patience) I saw very similar planters at HomeGoods!!!!!

Donna, I love seeing photos of your home. I always feel I could just drop by and plop down in one of your wing chairs! It is cozy and warm.

I have a feeling I will also be a Country Electic - but haven't taken the quiz yet. But now I'm off to do just that!

I'm off to take the test but boy oh boy it sure had you down!

I love Home Goods. There is always something there that tempts me into buying it.

Hugs,
Joanne

We don't have a Home Goods! And everyone seems to find such great stuff there. I think I'm sort of like you, although I'm going to go take that test. Funny, I live in a garden home, and my neighbor/friend down the street has basically the same layout as my house, but hers is more formal. I don't think I'd feel comfortable in a place where my pets couldn't be where they want to be! Which is on the furniture! I like your style, girl! You have a "comfy" house.

Your home is such an inspiration. So beautiful! It should be in a magazine, and you could do your own photos! I just love the welcoming feeling that comes across.

Yep, they have you pegged :)

Here's mine....

rue, you are a COUNTRY CLASSIC

You have a naturally refined sensibility with an appreciation for tradition and history. You value beauty, craftsmanship, and family heirlooms, but you like to open things up with pretty, easy-going pieces like painted wood or distressed furniture, lovely florals and other patterns, and bunches of fresh flowers that give your home a breezy, relaxed feeling. You love unique finds, have a thrifty, creative side, and can make these things work together.

You value comfort. Your home is a warm and open friendly place, and you feel happiest when everyone is cared for and relaxed in your space. Elements like pillows, throws, overstuffed furniture, and good lighting set the mood. You may also enjoy layering different fabrics or mixing patterns to create a cozy effect.

I think that's true too!

Btw, I love your girl's new places. All of you did a great job making them perfect :)

Have a great week!

xo,
rue

That quiz is almost scary in its accuracy isn't it? Your home is so warm, inviting, and your hard work is evident in all you have shared. Thanks for the glimpse of your home!

Oh, I just love your home, whatever style it is! It is gorgeous! I have a Patience, (head bust), too! Mine doesn't have the hair that comes around front, but down the back, but otherwise is just like her. I love Homegoods, too. I'll have to try that quiz! Sounds like fun! ~Rhonda :)

Whatever they want to name your style, I love it. It works. I especially love your pillows and all the shabby white furniture. Very nicely done.

Oh my! Oh my! I just bounced in here, from some other blog and.... Where did the time go??? Your entries are like eating peanuts. Can't stop at just one!!! :-)

Thank you for the fun. I'm always hooked by the word "Cottage." And your blog name being "An Enchanted Cottage"! Well, you had me! :-)

Oh and thank you for the great idea... Using throws on wing chairs! We have a wing chair that so needs a re-do. But I just won't spend the money on upholstering it. But! Wow! A throw!!!!!

I'm wondering just exactly what you mean by 'throw,' though...I think of it as, the sort-of-blanket that I 'throw' over my legs, when sitting in fav chair. But what you are using, looks larger than that. :-)

Gentle hugs,
Aunt Amelia
