The Studio Office Reveal. Part 2.

The studio office setup continues!

As you can see, Baby has made herself right at home in my computer/transcribing corner.

Please be careful of the bird lamp, Baby!

Last week I showed you the fabulous vintage green writing desk, parakeet lamp, and chalkware Mary statue that sits on one wall of the studio/office.

I'm afraid the computer/transcribing corner lacks the same vintage charm.

It consists of a small faux wood desktop set on metal legs and an old beige file cabinet. I've had it longer than I can remember. (The jury is still out on whether I'll try to paint the file cabinet white. The ideal time to do that would have been before it was moved into the room, so my guess is it will forever more be boring beige.)

The wicker 3-drawer storage unit was purchased at Target and the bird lamp at The Christmas Tree Shop, both maybe about 5 years ago?

The computer/transcribing desk sits next to the bedroom's one window (which is quite large) so it's a very bright room, although it's hard to tell on this overcast day!

One of the nicest things about this new room is that it came with an awesome roommate - Tiger!
Tiger sleeps on Amanda's old bed, which is currently across the room from my computer desk. Since Amanda often comes home from the city for visits, she still sleeps in this bed with Tiger.

They've been doing that for over 20 years, since 1993 when we got Tiger as a kitten.
(I love this picture!)

The small bedroom that I just moved out of (Court's old room) needs to be thoroughly de-cluttered and have the wallpaper stripped. After that it will get a fresh coat of paint and have the 33-year old wall to wall carpet torn up and new hardwood floors put down (hooray!).

Once that is done, the twin bed will be moved into that room...

... and bookcases will line the wall of my new office where the bed now stands. Or at least that's the plan.
(I love this picture of Tiger. I caught her just as she was about to yawn!)

Tiger will be 21 years old this August (or as our vet likes to say, of legal age!)
As Tiger has aged, it's gotten harder for her to get around, so a makeshift set of stairs (round storage boxes and an old vanity stool) allows her to get up and down from the bed that she has always slept on. Her food and water bowls have also been moved onto the bed. And since it was also becoming more difficult for her to get to the litter box down in the basement, we set one up in this room for her.

Tiger loves to hang out in her "Tiger Den" that sits atop the bed (a cardboard box with a blanket lining and an overhang of blankets on the roof). I'm hoping she'll want to stay roommates with me and have her "Den" set up on the floor, which would actually be so much easier for her. But if she rejects that idea and insists on sleeping on top of the bed, as she's done her whole life, I'll hold off on bringing the bookcases in and just keep things as they are with the bed in my office.

In my last post, you may have noticed the baby gate set up in the doorway of my new office studio. As I mentioned, we set up a litter box for Tiger in this room since it's so difficult for her to go up and down the stairs to the basement.

The gate was put up to keep this handsome boy out. For those of you who do not own both dogs and cats... For some very strange reason, dogs consider the little droppings in a litter box something of a gourmet treat. Yes, (gag), you read that right. So this gate is the equivalent of a "Restaurant Closed" sign for Mr. J.
Who knew we'd be needing it again so soon?

Of course Baby isn't going to let a "Baby" gate stop her from getting in. Nope.
The Baby gate is clearly not Baby proof!
She just leaps over in a single bound.

All the pieces you see in the background (two of Amanda's old bookcases and a small apothecary chest) are sitting here temporarily until I move yet another bookcase from my old office in, but I first have to give it a fresh coat of paint.

So, yes, it's a bit of a cluttered mess in this back corner right now, but all in good time! Hopefully I'll have more to share soon!

Have a great week, everyone!

Bird lamps for sale...

Many of you may remember when I posted about the bird lamp my girls gave me for Christmas a few years ago...

And then I posted about this bird lamp that I recently picked up at The Christmas Tree Shops here in the northeast...

I just received a comment from someone who is searching for a pair of matching bird lamps. She asked if anyone knew where she could find something similar to either of my lamps since she doesn't have a Christmas Tree Shop near her (and I believe they're all sold out now anyhow). Apparently Urban Outfitters is no longer carrying the lamp my girls gave me, either. So if any of you know of any great bird lamp sources, please feel free to leave comments here as to where she can find something! I also decided to do a little on-line search to see what I could find ....

Here's a sweet little white bird lamp from Lampstore.com (available for immediate shipping and the price includes shipping):
http://www.lampstore.com/storefront/showlamp.php?lmpid=2666

A while ago I had seen a beautiful bird JC Penney Linden Street bird lamp on somebody's blog (I wish I could remember who so I could provide a blog link for you!). But here's a link to the lamp. Unfortunately it's on backorder until May 15th, but it is also on sale for 50% off!

http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=58220&CatID=58220&Grptyp=PRD&ItemId=1437f14&cm_mmc=ShoppingFeed-_-Google-_-Home%20D%20cor-_-Linden%20Street%20Rustic%20Bird%20Table%20Lamp

This pretty lamp is from Bellacor.com... It says it ships in 2-4 weeks. Click on the photo for the link:

This next lamp from Target is a completely different look ... bronze with a red shade.... The website says it ships in 1-2 days. Here's the link:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/191-3245807-7048167?ASIN=B001P444FM&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B001P444FMBird_On_Post_With_Red_shade_-_31&

This next lamp from sofabed.ecrater.com is gorgeous, but it lists shipping as $120! Is that even possible? Shipping can be really out-of-sight, so it's always a good thing to check it out before placing an on-line order! Click photo for the link:

Okay, so those are the bird lamps I came up with... But I can't end this post without listing a few other fantastic lamps that I came across, all from The Country House!

Is anyone interested in a cottage bunny lamp?

Can you believe I found a gorgeous Sammy Squirrel lamp?

Cock-a-doodle-doo! Check out this rooster lamp!

And if I was still decorating in a primitive style, I'd have flipped for this sheep lamp!

Or this black crow lamp!

And last, but not least, just a very pretty cottage white lamp (no animals...no birds...just 100% charm!)

I hope you enjoyed looking at some of these lamps... The right lamp can add so much to a little shelf or corner, a tabletop, or even to an entire room! Have fun browsing!!

Major Bird Alert! Especially for the Northeast!

Comment Update: As some of you have discovered, Christmas Tree Shop doesn't offer on-line ordering, otherwise I definitely would have given you the source. So if you have any relatives or friends here in the Northeast who live near a CTS...

Comment Update #2: I was so surprised to hear that some of you enjoy your blue jay visitors all winter long! I wonder where mine go? (Maybe to your houses!) Mine disappear in late fall and then show up when the robins do, usually late January or early February.

I don't usually do two posts in one day, but I just had to because I don't want any of you to miss out on this deal! (Spring must almost be here because LOVE is in the air!!)

(click any photos to enlarge)

Do you love birds?

Do you love lamps???

Then you are going to flip for the bird lamp I picked up last night!!! (I do love bird lamps... do you remember this post about the Urban Outfitters bird lamp my girls bought for me?)

About 17" tall and almost 8" across (from tip of tail on one bird to outstretched wings of the other) [insert drumroll...................] And only $9.99 - shade included - at The Christmas Tree Shops!!!!!

Just look at the sweet details on this little bird!!!

The first one I picked up happened to have an imperfection ... The bird on the left only had one eye (all the other lamps were fine)... Now I could have put it back and picked one that was perfect, but this one reminded me of our sweet Gizzy (who we lost last March), our little one-eyed terrier mix whose picture you've probably seen on my sidebar... So the lamp with the one-eyed bird is the one that came home with me (remember me saying the other day that I loved Rachel Ashwell's philosophy about perfection being daunting? ha ha)... Perfection is definitely over-rated, a lesson that has take me almost my whole life to learn (and that I continue to learn each and every day!)

Double your fun!!! You all know me and my love for robin's egg/cottage blue! But my daughter bought the green lamp for herself, and I have to admit I was torn... I have so much robin's egg already, and I do love that shade of green... but in the end the little "bluebird of happiness" lamp won out for me...

I really need to make a habit of going to The Christmas Tree Shop more often. Look at this adorable heart-shaped, wire-trimmed Valentine ornament I found! It was just laying near the bird lamps so I brought it to the customer service desk and asked where they were located in the store... I was told that was probably the last one because the section where they were located was now empty, and that they had sold very quickly... Well for 99 cents I can see why! They're huge and just shabby/cottage perfect! Doesn't it look cute on my dining room bird (another imperfect bird here at the cottage!). Shortly after purchasing this bird many years ago, Mr. B, my all black kitty, knocked it over. The bird now has a gaping hole in its chest (not visible at this angle) and the entire front of his face/beak broke off... So I got some kind of plaster type material and tried my best to form his face and beak (very visible if you enlarge the photo!). It definitely looks like a 'repair' job, but that's okay... He doesn't need to be perfect to live here...

So my advice to anyone living here in the Northeast near a Christmas Tree Shop is to RUN to your nearest CTS if you're interested in either the bird lamps or the hearts!!!!!!! They're obviously going fast (at least the hearts are), and for the $9.99, I doubt those bird lamps are going to be on the shelves for long...

And last, but not least (how perfect for a bird post)... While I was taking a photo of the heart ornament hanging from the bird in the corner of our dining room, who should show up at the feeder but Mr. Blue Jay! It's good to see the bluejays back after them being gone all winter. I suspect he's thinking, "What a nice buffet table! Where do I begin!!!"

"I think I'll try a peanut first, but I'll be back for the suet and sunflower seeds very soon!"

Enjoy your day! And let me know if you do go to the CTS and get one of the lamps - or find more hearts! (There may have been more bird lamp colors originally, but the store I went to only had them in green or blue)...

My bird lamp...

(click photo for Urban Outfitters source)

A little extra post today because someone asked where I got my bird lamp. I've also noticed that many people land on my blog after doing a google (or other) search for "bird lamp," so a lot of people must love bird lamps besides me!!

My two beautiful daughters gave me this cottage-perfect lamp for Christmas... They had been at Urban Outfitters in Harvard Square last November when they spotted it. So, if you have an Urban near you, they may have them in stock (thereby saving you the shipping charges); but if not, you can purchase it from their website. Just click on the phot0 above and it will bring you to the direct link for the lamp, shown here with the prettiest cottage blue lampshade (not included with the lamp), but that will be my next color if I ever get tired of my green shade! Oh, and I want the white brick painted wall behind the lamp, too... "Oh, honey... look what I found! A future project for us (you) to work on!!! " (screaming in background... hair being pulled out.. not a pretty sight!! Gotta go!)

(Update: If anybody lives in the Northeast, I just purchased another amazing bird lamp... You can see the photo and source here).

The sweetest little cottage bird lamp...

"Two of the greatest gifts we can give our children are roots and wings." Hodding Carter

Isn't this the sweetest little lamp? My girls, who know how much I love to decorate with little white birds, gave it to me this past Christmas. I love that it has 3 birds because I think of myself as the mama bird and they are my two baby birds... I found this soft green chenille lampshade at Target (I just love that place!)...

I'm always moving things around, but right now I have the lamp sitting on top of the pie safe in the living room (next to a photo of my two beautiful girls, who know their mom so very well!! [sigh....] I don't know where the years have gone... Wasn't it just yesterday that they were my little ones?.....)

Update: I've had several people ask where this lamp was purchased. It was Urban Outfitters. Click here for the source.

And click here to see my newest 'bluebird of happiness' table lamp and source.
