Spring vignettes...

Spring has really arrived here in New England! Not only outside, but inside as well!

A little spring vignette in the Family Room featuring a vintage paint-by-number and bird figurines.

I think Mama Bluebird is squawking to Mr. Blue Jay that he'd better stay away from her nest and eggs!

As you can see, I use most of my old chair pads on tables rather than chairs. This plant is enjoying soaking up the sun through the slider.

Now this plant is an artificial boxwood, so technically it doesn't need the sun's rays, but I think it likes this spot in the window anyhow!

Baby is enjoying lounging in the family room today, laying against one of my favorite pillows made out of an old chenille bedspread. It is definitely a spring pillow with a big pink rose against a blue and white background.

This floral swan was a bedroom decoration in one of my girls' bedrooms when they were little. They're now in their 20's, so it's been around for quite some time.

It sits above the family room sliders.

This is my Christmas/Easter cactus. I call it that because it blooms at both Christmastime and in the spring around Easter. It sits on a robin's egg blue floral place mat in the living room bay window.

And last, but certainly not least, is the bird bowl I shared with you in yesterday's post. This little fellow definitely brings a touch of spring to the fireplace mantel.

I hope you enjoyed some of our spring vignettes. I'm linking up to Beverly's Pink (Spring) Saturday at How Sweet the Sound, so stop on over!!

Happy spring, everyone!

And then there were two...

Found years apart, but meant to be paired...

I first found this small framed pink rose needlepoint several years ago in a second hand store in Somerville, MA.

Earlier this year I came across this framed floral needlepoint. (What's scary is that even though I found this one more recently, I cannot remember where I got it!!)

Lovingly crafted by different hands, stitched in different colors, and mounted in different frames; but somehow they were meant to find each other and live happily ever after on the narrow strip of wall between the bathroom door and linen closet of our little cottage. Thank you to the two lovely crafters who put their hearts and souls into these two vintage needlepoints.
They are lovely and I cherish them!
Be sure to stop and see Cindy at My Romantic Home for a list of all the Show and Tell bloggers participating this week, and to see Cindy's special Show & Tell post!

P.S. It hit a high of 97 degrees Tueday. Wilting weather for sure! Mid 70's are forecast for the rest of the week... Heaven!

Now you see it ...... Now you don't

The ugly SOS pad ....

Now tucked away in this cute little sugar bowl/planter found at the thrift store...

Mm hmm... This will look much better sitting next to the sink.

Spring continues to bloom in New England (sigh.... I am in love with the weather right now)

Raindrops keep falling on my head...

... and on everything else outside!

These are the double impatiens outside our dining room window...

I braved the rain to snap these photos (see the little raindrop ready to fall from the petal in the upper left hand corner?)

Clearly the flowers are loving this wet summer because they're doing amazingly well ...

... especially when you consider the fact that I just plopped them down on the top of our birdseed screen feeder (serving as a windowbox for the summer) in their original little garden 6-pack containers. No larger pots, no potting soil, no fertilizer, no nothing...

I wonder if the Northwest is getting our typical Northeast summers (hot, high humidity, normal rainfall)? Because we definitely seem to be getting weather typical of the Northwest ... mildly pleasant summer temps, low humidity, and an excessive amount of rain! If it weren't for the rain, I'd actually be in 7th heaven with the pleasant temps and low humidity!

I'll definitely be buying lots more of these double impatiens in summers to come. They remind me of miniature roses.

Now who is that up in the old oak tree?

Awww, it's one of our Sammies, who's not going to let a rainy day keep him inside! Because rain or not, it's still a beautiful day!

Paint by Numbers

Oh how I wish I had some of the paint by numbers that I did as a child in the 50's and 60's! Of course I only painted horses back then... in every color, shape, size, and pose!

If you've ever visited my blog, you've most likely seen the vintage floral paint by number that hangs above my fireplace...

And in the dining room, I have this vintage PBN of swans. (There's one just like it up for auction on eBay right now!)

I just love the colors in this hydrangea PBN that I purchased several years ago. I knew as soon as I saw it that it would be perfect over the fireplace.

And just look at the colors of this roses PBN that hangs in my hallway (as an added bonus, it's signed & dated)! Some of the paint has lifted off, but that just adds to its charm. Some of the old frames for these PBN's are just gorgeous, too... this one has the perfect amount of wear and tear...

This is the swan painting that hangs in the dining room. I think swans are so graceful, and the colors in this were perfect for our little cottage. This didn't come with a frame, so I had to purchase one.

I bought this PBN of Mary for my daughter as one of her college graduation presents. She loves the paint by numbers that hang in our house, so I thought I would get her started on her very own collection for when she (eventually - no rush!) moves out! And again, this old frame is just beautiful even though two of the corners are a little out of kilter. (I even told her if she didn't like it, I would gladly keep it (ha ha), but she told me she LOVES it!).

... and I bought her this vintage dog PBN (even though he's a different color, he reminded me of our beloved Mr. O'Malley). And after all, you can't have a collection of just one! I think it looks pretty good in this frame I picked up at Wal Mart.

Yes, I just think these old paint by numbers add the sweetest cottage charm to a room!
