Old Man Winter vs. the Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer

As promised, here are a few photos of the most recent snow Old Man Winter bestowed on beautiful New England...

Thank goodness this isn't one of them! This was taken after our January 23, 2005 blizzard... brrr... it's coming up on that 4 year anniversary... I definitely don't want a repeat of that storm!

But the following photos are from our most recent snowstorms, and I was able to find some summer photos taken from about the same vantage point... (What a difference six months makes!)

The birdhouse wears a white powdered roof while the trellis to the left pokes above the snow...

The same scene this past summer (the flamingos flew south to our shed for the winter!)...

I poked my head out the family room slider long enough to snap this picture of the shed and tree house... Trust me, it's as COLD as it looks!

Oh, sweet greens of spring and summer... Just knowing you're but months away keeps me going through our long New England winter!

Nary a Sammy in sight on squirrel gulch today...

But it won't be long before they're once again sunning themselves on warm spring days....

Little garden angel, do you miss the spring blossoms and the sweet song of the wrens?

Not to worry... Before long your little friends will be back to raise a new family in the wren cottage just beyond the fence...

And now, just a few more random photos of the beautiful snowfalls we've been treated to....

Out the family room sliders...

The back yard....

The mulberry tree by the back fence, along with the snow covered bistro set...

... and the flowering cherry tree in our side yard... The squirrels worked tirelessly to enlarge the birdhouse entrance so they often use it during winter storms....

If you live in a snow region, stay warm!!! And if you don't, you're probably either really envious right about now - or you're thanking your lucky stars that you can just walk out your front door in a t-shirt and drive off to do errands...

...(As opposed to bundling up in coat, scarf, gloves, & hat, brushing off your car, scraping ice off your windshield, and running the defroster before heading out. And it's EXTRA fun if you get to do all the bundling of little ones in the winter time - especially for very short errands... Oh, gosh, I remember those days like they were yesterday!)

Geeeeeeeeeeez, that's A LOT of snow!!! I haven't seen snow.....well, the last time I saw snow was in the back of someone's truck at church. They'd brought it back from the mountains.

It LOOKS pretty, but I don't want to live in it. :)

Brrrrrrrrrrr, I don't know how you get through those days. I haven't lived in the snow, don't know if I could.

Hang in there and hope the snowplows pass you way.

Hi Donna -
Your photos remind me of those I shared when we had our big snow in December. Our patio table looked like it had a big cake sitting on the top, ready to serve, and I called the little pointed 'hats' on things around the yard 'gnome domes' because everything looked like gnomes sitting outside my windows. Thanks for sharing your reminder that summer will return. I hope!

That was alot of snow. I pray you don't get that again on the anniversary date. We're suppose to have almost 50 here today and warmer tomorrow. And then a snowstorm on Sunday, I pray they're wrong, I'm so ready for spring and green.. have a super day. hugs ~lynne~

GM! It does look pretty but I have to agree with the latter, I'm sooo glad that isn't something I have to contend. I like being able to just throw on jeans and a shirt, some flip flops and out the door I go.
Stay warm!
When will you see "Spring"? We're finally getting some "winter" weather back after going through a week of glorious temps, but I welcome the rain. We really need it and I do enjoy the cooler temps.

Snow is so beautiful...if we could just look at it. I remember as a child, telling my Mom I wanted to go out and play. She would dress me up in snow pants and jacket, scarf, mittens and hat. I would go out for 5-10 minutes, and then come in, cold and tired of being outside. How did she stand it? Hugs,

BEAUTIFUL PICTURES. I'm sure looking forward to spring, but I guess if we didn't have winter, we would appreciate spring so much. laurie

You got way more snow than we did here in NYC! I love how it looks when it first falls, but it doesn't stay pretty very long when it's trampled and made yellow..lol

Stay warm! Hot chocolate and a warm cat on the lap is good! :-)

Great snowy photos. I think I am one of the "few" lovers of Winter :-) Your Sammy squirrel photo is so cute - I love it when they sprawl out on the warm deck!

I just love how the snow piles on top of everything. The way it hangs in the trees. It's so pretty.

I've never lived in the snow so I'm not sure what it's really like but I think I would love it as I adore cold grey days.

Here in CA it's been so strange. We were in the high 80's and today it's overcast with sprinkles. You never know if it's going to be hot or cold. Oh wait, even our cold is a warm day for you in winter.

Well, at least you have the beauty outside your door.

I love it!

Hugs,
Joanne

Hi Donna
You sure have lots of snow. Our son lives in Boston and he sent us pictures the other day of the snow on their patio. I'm glad we live in North Carolina!

What a great post. I love your photos comparing different areas in cold and warm weather. Great idea!

We just had our first snow in quite some time. I've enjoyed it, but I'll be glad when it's gone!

We have had a lot of snow here in Ohio, but I don't think it's quite as much as you have! Oh, I am sooooo ready for winter to be over!!
