Roswell, New England...

Yes, indeed... It looks like the aliens have come and gone and left a big saucer shaped crater for us to deal with.... oh, the ugliness of it all.....

Okay, it was actually the 21' above ground pool that our girls and their friends splish-splashed in for many, many years. This photo was taken last year after hubby dismantled the pool. This is what we were left with... a scooped out crater full of stone dust!!

So last year we (as in hubby) built a 10' x 10' patio right next to where the pool used to be. The location was my idea so that we were able to plug the waterfall fountain into what used to be the electrical box for the pool filter/pump. We then had lots of top soil brought in, but toward autumn we ran out of money for this project and good weather, so everything got put on hold till this year...

We've now finished filling in the crater with top soil and we've put up a temporary E-Z up tent until someday (dream, Donna!) we can buy one of the nice 'mosquito netting' cabanas that all the stores are now carrying... The almost 100 degree temps and HIGH humidity are coming to an end tomorrow, so we're going to take advantage of the C-O-O-O-O-O-L temps this week to finish planting and whatnot...

So, this is it so far... As you can see, I have a thing for using plants and colors that attract hummingbirds to the yard! And this is where I take most of my photos of Chip(s), Sammy(s), and the birds... There's still a lot to be done but as I keep reminding myself, "Patience" is a virtue!!

A nice place to relax! Glad your high temperatures are ending so you can enjoy your special apot. Don't worry - it will all come together. I get anxious to get my yard all finished, too, but it has to be one step at a time. ~Adrienne~

That is looking good!I love those Cabanas too and I think that will look perfect there. You are so lucky that the temps are dropping, ours are just getting higher.Keep working on that project and keep us posted. It's just a diamond in the raw right now...

Donna,

Aren't you glad the humidity has broken?? I finally have my windows open and my shades up. I feel like I have been living in a hot, moist cave for the last four days.

Your space is lovely. I couldn't afford much either. So about a year and a half ago, I bought one of those gazebos from Target. They cost about $299 this year I think. Though I paid $399. (Economy?) I had it put up in my courtyard and I don't know how I lived without it! It's only 10 X 10 and anything bigger would not have fit there! It's on my Flickr site under garden photos.

Hi Donna!
I love your patio, it's so wonderful looking! I've been wanting one of those cabanas too but it's just not in the budget and I'm just not up to doing a Martha S thing with twigs from the neighbors tree and leftover fabric in my sewing stash!!LOL
Everything in its time!

Oh I love your backyard and all that is in there. Your white chairs look super with that nice cool blue in the cushions.

Hey! Thanks to you I went to Lowe's today and we got that rose fountain. It's all ready to go. Tomorrow I'm going to put it outside by the front door with plants around it.

We have a small patch of dirt that nothing will grow in. I don't know why but once I saw that fountain in your post I thought I could use that and put some pea gravel down with plants around it and hanging baskets of flowers above it. Hope it looks ok.

So thanks for the heads up on the fountain. I love it. But I'm thinking of painting it white. I'm on a white craze now. LOL

Hugs to you
Joanne

Wow, the patio area looks great! Looks like its a great place to relax. I'm glad you were able to transform it, and take advantage of the wiring so you could put in a fountain too!

I finally posted a pic of my little resin hedgehog who lives under a bush next to my patio.

what a lovely outdoor retreat! i love it! we're in the process of removing our above-ground pool, too (one of the many "treasures" we inherited when we bought the house)! if our yard turns out half as beautiful i'll be a happy camper! :)
